  • A conservation officer's story This is written in response to the allegations of impropriety at the conservation officer service following recent bear incidents;
  • Responses from council candidates sought This is an open Letter to all candidates for city council and mayor: Municipal election issue: Proposed heavy industrial development at McLean Lake:

  • Next time, folks, get it right In response to Esa Ekdahl's letter (October 5, 2006), I agree! I would be quite nervous about wandering the forests of the Yukon, too, if the conservation officers were recklessly firing their weapons perhaps even needlessly. What concerns me, however, is that they left the animal to roam our forests seriously injured. That is quite cruel....
  • Was your vote really all that effective? In this recent Yukon Territorial election a majority government was elected by 41% of the voters.
  • City council needs a major makeover With little fanfare, the Whitehorse municipal election will take place next week. The low numbers of candidates for council leave little choice for voters. It will be hard to decide who to vote for but not who to vote against.
  • Approach to wildlife needs second thought Conservation officers and their office are building quite the empirical trail. It's easy to follow and there is not much chance of one getting lost. You are having a problem with nature, just kill it and problem solved. Let's take a moment and examine this stellar record.

  • Yukon Refugees are Coming Home About 3,000 Yukoners were forced to leave the Yukon from 2000 to 2002 when the Liberals with Premier Pat Duncan were in power. Now, due to the economic policies of the Yukon Party many of these refugees are returning home.
  • Don't be fooled on election day The Yukon Party had four years to prove that they respect the environment and they did the complete opposite. The environment is the single most critical aspect for the well-being of all life. Don't be fooled by their sudden interest in the environment. The Yukon Party respects power and money.
  • Things are becoming clear In the territorial election, some things are becoming clear.
  • Letter equalled infomercial Thankfully, Yukoners are well educated and effective critical thinkers. This helped them see through the infomercial that was published in the form of a letter to the editor in last Friday's Whitehorse Star. The letter referenced a new, nonprescription, fruit product for the treatment of symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The writer was very nice to include a web site and 1-800 number where, no doubt, the product could be purchased. Is it the policy of Whitehorse Star to provide free advertising such as this in the Letters to the Editor section?
  • Only now is the government coming around Open letter to Premier Dennis Fentie:
  • Bring back consensus government As the territorial election draws nearer, I remain in a quandary as to where to cast my ballot. Should I vote for the person or the party? Should I vote strategically in an attempt to stop a candidate from getting elected?

  • Officers should be sure Again our great conservation officers have shot and wounded a bear in the Porter Creek area.
  • Unethical behaviour has been displayed The Yukon Party is not a transparent and accountable government. In the fall of 2004, the then Environment Minister Jim Kenyon said the reason 10 wolves were strangled to death the previous winter was because a child was threatened. Mr. Kenyon had no documents backing that statement and he was not held accountable for that remark. In May 2005, 56 reindeer were terrorized, traumatized and slaughtered amongst each other.
