  • Corner a disaster from the first day Ed. note: this is an open letter to Mayor Ernie Bourassa and city council. I sincerely hope Coun. Dave Austin was trying to be 'politically correct' when he said the situation at Second and Fourth avenues 'concerns' him and they will 'monitor' the situation (Star, Feb. 24).
  • Working together for sustainable fisheries Your article on Canada joining with traditional high seas foes to oppose a ban on ocean draggers ('Canada worried UN trawling ban could cost domestic industry $500 million', Dec. 29, 2005) raises the important issue of how we as a country and international community must work together to ensure sustainable fisheries.
  • Leave our handguns alone! I've just read comments from Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant, who is once again saying, 'Ontario wants a handgun ban.'
  • Voters need an alternative course from city officials It's clear that we will soon have civic legislation here in Whitehorse to define and protect green space in each neighbourhood.
  • Canadian Muslims should denounce violent actions The 'Muhammad cartoon issue' and the threats of Canadian Muslims against The Western Standard for re-publishing those cartoons is something which merits the careful consideration and response of every Canadian.
