Yukon wins fifth cup in a row, Muir finishes second
Whitehorse resident Lori Muir came in second in the women's A division at the Microage Challenge Year End Tournament, held in Yellowknife, N.W.T. this past weekend.
Whitehorse resident Lori Muir came in second in the women's A division at the Microage Challenge Year End Tournament, held in Yellowknife, N.W.T. this past weekend.
To get to the finals in her round robin play, Muir had to play Yellowknife's Kim Combre. She was down two games but then came back to win.
Muir then played Lisa Campbell in the semi-final, which she won in four games, followed by Jessica Patterson from Yellowknife in the final, which she lost in four.
More than 130 people, including a few from Vancouver and Iqaluit, participated in the tournament.
Here are the results of the other Yukon participants:
JANE BELL won consolation in the women's B event.
MARIE DESMARAIS lost in the semi-finals in the men's A division.
JIM GILPIN ñ, won two matches and then lost in the men's A division.
WAYNE TUCK won two matches and then lost in the men's C division.
JANET LEE ñ, won one match and lost two in the women's A division
SHAUNA TOMPKINS lost two matches in the women's B division.
Whitehorse again won the N.W.T./Yukon Squash Challenge Cup, for the fifth year in a row.
The competition is decided by counting every match that Yukon plays against N.W.T. The team which wins the most matches brings home the cup. This year, Yukon won 11 matches while N.W.T. won nine.
The Yukon junior squash championships will be held this coming weekend at Better Bodies Cross Training Centre.
The deadline for entry is Wednesday, June 2, at 6 p.m.
