Table Tennis Yukon will host its annual territorial championship this weekend at Holy Family School.

The tournament will be divided up to a team event, played on Saturday, and a singles/doubles competition on Sunday.

The team event will pair up more talented players with the weaker ones.

Cash prizes will be given out for the team event, including $40 for first place, $30 for second, $20 for third and $10 for fourth.

"It's kind of a fun event," said Dave Stockdale, the president of the Yukon Table Tennis Association.

This year's tournament benefitted from a sponsorship agreement from East West Health Centre. The health centre donated $500 for the weekend competition.

Sunday's singles and doubles draw will feature a rookie competition for beginner players.

Trophies in each category will be given out, in addition to prize money given for the top four finishers.

Entry forms are available at Sport Yukon.

Most of the players registered so far are from Whitehorse, however, there will be at least one player from Dawson City.

In the past players from Alaska have attended the tournament, but this year it doesn't look like it will happen.

Stockdale said some of the possible changes might include holding the tournament in Tok, Alaska in the future.

"I think it might be a fun thing to do," he said. "It something worth looking at anyway."

He said the tournament might even take people who come through the door.

"There's a pretty good chance if you want to play, if you came on Saturday morning, 9 a.m. at the school, you have a pretty good chance at getting into the tournament," he said.

"It will be a typical Yukon tournament."
