Whitehorse Glacier Bears showed the rest of Canada that Yukon swimmers have what it takes at this year's Age Group Nationals last weekend.
Whitehorse was represented at the competition by Alexandra Gabor and Bronwyn Pasloski. Brendan Zrum had also qualified to attend this meet but was unable to attend this year.
Gabor was the highest female point scorer for all female swimmers in the different age groups. She finished this meet with a very impressive record of five gold and two silvers.
Pasloski also did well at the meet by winning a Bronze medal in the 100 breast stroke, and achieved a senior national qualifying time. According to Coach Marek Poplawski, this was the best swim of the meet for the two Bear swimmers. Overall, he was very impressed with the level of commitment and focus from both of the girls.
Based on team standings, these two swimmers finished in the combined male and female standings in 21st place out of 113 teams, and in the female standings placed 13th out of 113 teams.
The Bears have now broken another 11 long course records bringing the total to 151 for the year. This time last year they broke over 200 records.
Breaking so many again this year just shows that the club is just getting faster and faster all the time and that the Whitehorse Glacier Bears are a force to be reckoned with, said a spokesperson for the club.
Gabor is now in Montreal competing at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championship Trials. This is an open age group meet, where she will be competing with the best swimmers in Canada and will include many of the last Olympic swimmers along with many swimmers in their early 20s.
