Yukon soccer teams take part in Juneau soccer tournament
Three local soccer teams travelled to Juneau, Alaska earlier in the month to compete in a tournament.

The Juneau Soccer Club reserved field time all weekend on their beautiful outdoor turf field at Adair Park for the exhibition games to be played.
The Men's Yukon Selects split the weekend series with the Juneau Selects, each team winning a game.
The Juneau Selects came out firing in the first game on Friday night and the local team found themselves down three goals only 10 minutes in to the first half.
A penalty conceded a minute into play set the early tone. The local team was able to come back with two goals of their own before half time.
The first one came after Yukon Selects Captain Jake Hanson was able to head in a long cross from 17-year-old defender Cody Rheaume. Then just 10 minutes later when Hanson was able to take a clever short corner from teammate Peter Mather and curl it over the goalie into the far netting.
The score at half was 5-2 and the locals were able to get another one back in the second half.
Mayo resident and Yukon Select striker Marshall Ewing out-muscled and paced a couple of Juneau defenders to slide a ball under the challenging goalkeeper.
The final was 5-3 for Juneau. In the Saturday night exhibition game the result was different. Some tactical adjustments were made and the locals got a positive result.
University of Victoria defender, Harrison Kwok, got the scoring under way by scoring on a hard low shot from just outside the 18 that just went off the inside of the right side post and in.
Juneau tied the game at one before the end of the first half.
Good way through the second half, 17-year-old midfielder Steven Dynes out-paced the Juneau team on the outside of the pitch before cutting into the penalty area and being taken down.
Ex-Dalhousie University defender Morgan Fraughton easily converted the penalty to put the Selects back up.
An unfortunate late sequence resulted in a tying goal for the Juneau team with only a minute left in regulation time.
The game went to penalty kicks to be decided. Veteran Yukon Select goalie Charlie Hoeller stopped the last two Juneau shooters to give the Selects the 4-3 win in penalties.
The boys U-16 team that is heading off to represent the Territory at Nationals in Sydney, Nova Scotia this October was also in Juneau for games.
The boys split their series with a very good U-16 club and then won both of their games against a U-15 club.
This team will now try to go off to the Alberta Outdoor Provincials in August, in preparation for the upcoming Nationals.
The girls U-13 Blizzard were also in Juneau for the weekend playing four games against Juneau Soccer Club teams.
