Yukon Selects win Sherwood Park Invitational Novice B Tournament

The Yukon Selects ended their season on a high note with a gold medal performance at the Sherwood Park Invitational Novice B Hockey Tournament, held in Edmonton.

The Yukon Selects ended their season on a high note with a gold medal performance at the Sherwood Park Invitational Novice B Hockey Tournament, held in Edmonton.

The team finished with an incredible 5-0 record at the competition, winning the gold medal game by the score of 3-0 over the Calgary Vipers.

"It was amazing," said Yukon Selects coach Wade Comin.

"It wasn't unexpected it was just the way the team came together.

It was an amazing experience for us as the coaches and for the players it was something to see."

The Yukon Select's first game was against the Sherwood Park Oil Kings.

The team scored an incredible eight goals against the Oil Kings and the Select's goalie earned the shutout.

Kaine Comin won the MVP award with five assists in total.

The Selects second game was against the Sherwood Park Gold Vipers.

The Yukon kids beat the Vipers 4-1 and Tynon Hope earned the MVP award for his offensive contributions. Hope scored a hat trick in the victory.

In the final game of the round robin, the Yukon Selects won a high scoring affair against the Airdrie Panthers.

The final score was 6-4 and Jessee McCuaig was named MVP after he scored two goals in the victory.

With a record of 3-0, the Selects finished tied for second in the 12-team pool.

The top four teams qualified for the semi finals and the Selects faced off against a talented Lacombe Avalanche group.

In their semi-final match against the Avalanche, the Yukon Selects narrowly got the victory.

The final score was 2-1 and Matthew Braya was named MVP for his excellent defensive play in the game.

The team's final game was against the Calgary Vipers.

After a great blocker save by the Yukon Selects goalie, Riley Smoler scored the first goal of the game.

Smoler would score another goal and by the end of the second period the score was 3-0. Smoler was named as MVP.
