Yukon Rad, Mustangs to meet for A division title

Boston Pizza/Yukon Rad stayed alive in the Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League A division playoffs, heading the Northern Cross Midget Mustangs a 7-4 loss Sunday and setting up a rematch for the title Tuesday night.

Boston Pizza/Yukon Rad stayed alive in the Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League A division playoffs, heading the Northern Cross Midget Mustangs a 7-4 loss Sunday and setting up a rematch for the title Tuesday night.

Mike Young and Derek Johnstone led the offensive charge for BP, each notching a pair of goals and an assist, while Jay Massie, Barry Blisner and Lance Brown each chipped in a goal and two assists. James Edzerza finished with two assists while Rob Johnson and Trevor Twardochleb each had one helper.

Colin Dendys, Lowell Johnston and Robbie Stuckey replied for the Mustangs, each collecting a goal and an assist. Kane Dawe also hit the twine while Kaleb Dawe, Nicholas Swizdaryk and Alex McDougall were credited with assists.

In the B division playoff game Sunday, it was:

Environmental Dynamics 3

Narrow Gauge Contracting 2

Dave Richard potted a pair of goals for Environmental Dynamics as they snuck past Narrow Gauge Contracting.

Jeremy Hookham also found the back of the net for EDI while Andy Connors picked up two assists. Marc Champagne and Alain Desrochers were each given an assist.

Dan Macdonald and Alex Vautour scored for Narrow Gauge, assisted by Adrian Bergman (2) and Phillip Harry.

The loss eliminated Narrow Gauge from the playoffs, due to the double knockout format.

EDI and Sports North are the last two B division teams remaining and will meet in the final Tuesday night.

Saturday's Results

Boston Pizza/Yukon Rad 13

Southern Tutchone Storm 1

Derek Johnstone had a huge game for Boston Pizza/Yukon Rad, recording five goals and adding an assist, as his team destroyed the Southern Tutchone Storm.

Mike Young added three goals and two assists for BP while Dean Mastrangelo netted a hat trick and one helper. Bryan Curial contributed a goal and three assists while Ed Peart had a goal and two assists. Ron Johnson was awarded four assists while Lance Brown posted two assists and James Edzerza, Jay Massie and Trevor Twardochleb each grabbed one helper.

Ryan Hodgins notched the lone goal for the Storm, assisted by Scott Horsey.

The loss knocked the Storm out of the playoffs.

Narrow Gauge Contracting 4

Kluane Drillers 3

Narrow Gauge Contracting forwards Yves Paradis and Adrian Bergman were successful in the shootout, beating Kluane Drillers goaltender Matt King to seal the victory.

Bergman also potted a pair of goals in regulation for Narrow Gauge while Phillip Harry added a marker. Dan Macdonald and Chris Harry picked up assists.

Rob Pitzel was the only member of the Drillers to solve Shawn McLeod in the shootout. Tyler Murray, Andrew Zinck and Daniel Murray notched goals for Kluane in regulation, assisted by Pitzel, Doug Roberts, Mark Daniels and Edwin Vanderkley.

The loss ousted the Drillers from playoff contention.

Sports North 6

Environmental Dynamics 4

Linus Fraser led Sports North with three goals and an assist as they prevailed in a battle against Environmental Dynamics.

Derrick Hynes added a goal and an assist for Sports North while Dustin Slonski also scored. Dale Kulych picked up four assists while Mike O'Connor grabbed two assists and Rick Olson had one helper.

Jeremy Hookham potted a pair of markers for EDI. Pat Tobler tacked on a goal and an assist while Alain Desrocher also lit the lamp. Single assists went to Stacy Halonen, Andy Connors, Doug Cote and Brian Douglas.

Friday's Results

Southern Tutchone Storm 7

Yukon Appliance Blues 4

Scott Horsey collected four goals for the Southern Tutchone Storm as his team eliminated the Yukon Appliance Blues from the A division playoffs with a big win.

Cody Joe added a goal and four assists for the Storm while Kevin Smith also scored. Shawn Kolak contributed two assists.

Joe Martin recorded a hat trick for the Blues while Spencer Tomlin chipped in a goal and an assist. Dan Girouard was credited with three assists while Ryan Martin and Tyler Plaunt each posted an assist.

Northern Cross

Midget Mustangs 3

Boston Pizza/Yukon Rad 1

Kane Dawe, Joe Densmore and Nicholas Swizdaryk provided the offence for the Northern Cross Midget Mustangs as they denied Boston Pizza/Yukon Rad.

Kaleb Dawe and Ted Stephens each finished with a pair of assists for the Mustangs while Kane and Fraser Love each had one helper.

Derek Johnston netted the lone goal for Yukon Rad, assisted by Barry Blisner.
