The Yukon Quest held a pre-race vet check on Saturday at the Whitehorse airport, in the lead up to the 2010 start of the race.
The race leaves from Fairbanks this Saturday, and is expected to finish up in downtown Whitehorse in the early hours of Feb. 17.
This year 27 mushers are signed up for the race, including Whitehorse's Hans Gatt, Gerry Willomitzer, Normand Casavant and Jocelyne LeBlanc – all of whom attended this weekend's vet check.
Three mushers have dropped out of the race, it was announced today, bringing the musher count down to 24.
Also in attendance on Saturday was Belgian rookie musher Bart de Marie, and Hugh Neff.
At the pre-race vet check Saturday, local veterinarians went over each musher's team thoroughly in preparation for the 1,000-mile race.
This year's race is expected to be a great one, with a wide range of experienced veterans mixed in with a group of promising rookies.
Returning to the Yukon Quest this year is four-time champion Lance Mackey, from Alaska.
