Yukon Orienteering Association to hold first meet of 2009 season
The Yukon Orienteering Association is holding two meets this week, starting Wednesday.

Wednesday's meet be the organization's first regular weekly meet of the season. The start location is the Robert Service Campground at 6:30p.m.
On Thursday, the YOA is holding a special lunch time meet in the downtown area.
It's start location is Rotary Park and participants are welcome to come out between 11:30 a.m. and 2p.m.
At Thursday's downtown meet, there will be two distances: one-km and 2.5-km
The shorter distance is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
The cost to participate on Thursday is $5.
Both meets are in celebration of national orienteering week, which runs from May 2 to 10.
Orienteering has grown in popularity over the years and now includes races in more than 60 countries around the globe.
Participants are required to use their navigation skills while looking for designated checkpoints using a map and compass.
Most races involve high-speed cross-country running, however other popular variations include orienteering on mountain bikes or skis.
The sport appeals to athletes who enjoy the Great Outdoors.
Orienteering features a very low environmental impact. It encourages participants to respect and appreciate nature.
This past Saturday, the YOA held its Annual Learn to O workshop which offers participants an introduction to the sport.
