Wayne Kazakoff helped the Yukon Inn continue its march toward first place with a pair of goals in a 4-2 victory over the stumbling Klondyke Dental Molars in Whitehorse oldtimer hockey action Thursday night.

Lester Balsillie punched up the Inn's offence with three assists while John Pereira and Grant Lyon each scored once. Ron Servatius and Bernie Heffner scored for the Molars.

With the win, Yukon Inn takes over sole possession of third place and continues its pursuit of first-place Medicine Chest and the second-place Firth Rangers.

The Molars, on a mid-season charge earlier this month with the likes of snipers Wayne Crowe and Rick Smith, have fallen off the pace quicker than the Russian Olympic squad.

In other oldtimer hockey action Thursday, Rangers netminder Gord Puddister shut out the Medicine Chest 2-0. Phil Borgell scored once and assisted on the team's only other goal by Ron Sumanik. Bob Allison pitched in an assist.

With his fourth shutout and seven games remaining in the season, Puddister moves into three-way tie for the shutout crown.

In oldtimer hockey action Wednesday, a resilient Edgewater Hotel upset the Performance Centre Turbos 5-4.

Turbos Mike Blower opened the scoring but the Hotel replied with goals by Gord Petersalo, Barry Durward – with his first of the year – and Alfred Feldman.

The Turbos fought back to tie the game with a goal by Kelly Collins and a power play marker by Sean McAskie.

Shawn McLeod scored his first of two to regain the lead for Edgewater before the end of the first period.

McLeod scored his second to put the Hotel up 5-3 midway through the second period and a late goal by Warren Kapaniuk drew the Turbos within one but the Hotel hung on.

In other oldtimer action Wednesday, Wade Harrison led the AON Flames to a 7-5 victory over Kilrich.

Harrison scored twice and added three assists while teammate Mike L'Henaff scored once and added two assists.

The Flames Tony Clennet scored once and added as assist. Laurie Malo, Jeff Hunston and Eric Von Flotow recorded single markers for the Flames, while Rick Blaker notched up an assist.

Jim Giczi kept Kilrich in the game with a hat trick and an assist, and teammate Bruce Williams scored twice and assisted Giczi on one.

Grant Lowey, Bill (Boom Boom) Bohmer and Al Koehl each recorded an assist for Kilrich.

The standings after last night's play with seven games remaining are: Medicine Chest 47; Firth Rangers 45; Yukon Inn 41; Performance Centre Turbos 39; AON 32; Klondyke Dental Molars 31; Edgewater Hotel 25 and Kilrich 20.

The next oldtimers games will be at the Takhini Arena Sunday; Kilrich vs. Edgewater at 4:15 p.m., Klondyke Dental Molars vs. Firth Rangers at 5:45 p.m., Yukon Inn vs. Medicine Chest at 7:15 p.m. and AON vs. Performance Centre at 8:45 p.m.

The Whitehorse oldtimer hockey tournament is scheduled for the March 5-7 weekend.
