It might have not been the biggest meet of the season, but for many members of the Polarettes and Polar Tumblers Gymnastics Club, it was the most meaningful.

In front of a supportive crowd, the club held its annual Yukon Championships, which was the final competition of the season.

Besides the participating Yukoners, a club from Juneau took part. There were more than 10 kids from Juneau, ranging from girl's level one and two and boy's level one.

"(For) a lot of these kids, this was their very first competition, so it was just breaking them in and getting used to saluting a judge and being nervous," said Juneau coach Beth Landvatter. "This is very much low key. We love it, the kids aren't nearly as uptight. No tears today, not one tear. That's like a miracle in a gymnastics meet. It's very rare, usually someone's crying."

Jenn Ryan, the head coach of the Polarettes and Polar Tumblers, said one of her highlights came in the level three plus category. As a result of there only being four girls competing, the judging was ranked on how cleanly their routine was accordingly to their level.

Ryan said the girls had a bit of fun, trying some techniques they had been working on in practice that might not be competition ready.

"Overall we did really good, we are really pleased with the day," Ryan said. "It was a really good meet to end on actually."

Catherine O'Donovan, coach of the nine to 11 Polarettes group, said this was the meet of their lives.

"All my kids really kind of blossomed at this meet and kind of hit all of their goals," she said. "Everyone of them placed and got a medal in something, so that was a really good feeling."

Yukon Gymnastics Championships results to come in Tuesday's paper.
