It was a memorable first season for Yukon Freestyle Ski Team coach Ann-Marie Pelchat.
In between numerous practices, the former Olympian took her squad to three competitions, held in March and April.
The most recent meet was the Yukon Championships, hosted at Mt. Sima this past weekend.
The Yukon freestyle group swept the top positions, placing in the top three in the boys' category and rounding out the top two in the girls' division.
"It was fun to see because all the kids showed everything they learned this year," said Pelchat.
Miguel Rodden placed first in the Yukon Championships' boy's slopestyle competition, while Anatole Tuzlak came in second and fellow teammate James Boyle finished third out of five competitors.
Anna Smith was the top finisher in the girls' event and Sarah Forsyth placed second overall.
This was a nice ending for the team, which also took part in two competitions in March. The group's first ski meet was its toughest, pitting them up against our nations best.
There were three events at the junior nationals, held at Silverstar B.C., including moguls, big air and duel moguls.
Among the nationals highlights featured Rodden skiing his way to a 13th place showing (in a field of 30) in the big air event.
"That's pretty impressive because the kids over there are all the best in the province and they train so many days a year," said Pelchat. "It's incredible. We only had 28 days of skiing, so it's pretty impressive."
Pelchat, who also has coaching experience in Quebec, Australia and B.C., said it was nice to see the team's improvement at the nationals.
"They just gained so much confidence," she said. "They did their best performance of the whole year right there.
"Usually when you go to a high level competition like this, especially when it's your first competition, usually stress gets over you, but they dealt with stress like incredibly."
Good results also came at the team's next competition, which was the Panorama and also held in B.C.
Some of the highlights at Panorama included Tuzlak coming in second in the rail jam category.
The Yukon Freestyle Ski Team, has nine members ranging from 13 to 15 years old.
