Yukon Curling Association to host Scotties Yukon/NWT Ladies Championships

The Yukon Curling Association is pleased to be hosting the Scotties Yukon/NWT Ladies Championships with curling action beginning 2 p.m. Thursday at the Whitehorse Curling Club.

The Yukon Curling Association is pleased to be hosting the Scotties Yukon/NWT Ladies Championships with curling action beginning 2 p.m. Thursday at the Whitehorse Curling Club.

Two Yukon teams will compete against two teams from the Northwest Territories in a modified double round-robin format for the right to represent the territories at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Charlottetown, P.E.I, February 19-27.

The Yukon will be represented by Team #1, the Nicole Baldwin rink, consisting of Nicole Baldwin as Skip, Ladene Shaw as Second, Kerry Campbell as Third and Lisa Abel as Lead. Members of this team represented the Yukon in November 2010 at the recent Dominion Curling Championships, also held in P.E.I.

The Jaime Hewitt rink will be the second Whitehorse team representing the Yukon at this event. The Hewitt rink consists of Jaime Hewitt as Skip, Leslie Grant as Third, Corinne Delaire as Second and Dianne Huber as Lead. The members of the Hewitt rink have significant experience and have represented the Yukon numerous times in the past few years.

The Yukon Curling Association welcomes the N.W.T. Team #1, skipped by Sharon Cormier, along with players Tara Naugler, Megan Cormier, Danielle Ellis and Jenna Alexander.

Kerry Galusha leads the N.W.T. Team #2, with players Dawn Moses, Wendy Miller, Shona Barbour, and Ashley Green. Cormier is the defending Scotties Champion, while Galusha has represented the Yukon/N.W.T. many times at national events.

Opening ceremonies are at 1 p.m. Thursday followed by the first draw at 2 p.m.

Draws continue on Friday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. Results will also be posted at www.yukoncurling.ca.
