Yukon College (YC) has entered into a partnership with the Whitehorse 2012 Arctic Winter Games (AWG).

This relationship will benefit both the athletes and YC students through the many services that will be provided by Yukon College.

Yukon College will be managing a number of areas including: food services, the AWG headuarters and administration, entertainment areas for the athletes, the Poli-Clinic (doctors, physiotherapists, etc.), and a venue for the wrestling competition.

"Yukon College is a valuable partner that understands the importance of an incredible youth athete experience and the commitment required to partner with the host society as a key community contributor,” said Charly Kelly, vice-president of athlete services for the 2012 AWG.

Colleen Wirth, director of student services, said the partnership will help make the AWG a memorable event for both atheltes and students.

"Yukon College is looking forward to working with the Arctic Winter Games host society,” Wirth said.

Yukon College is currently working towards the development of a "service learning credit” that rewards students for their volunteer hours with course credits.

The AWG gives students the opportunity to be rewarded for their community spirit.

Yukon College will continue with the successful approach towards food services that was used during the 2007 Canada Winter Games. It was the first time in Games history that food service wasn't contracted to a catering company.

The culinary arts students were given the opportuniy to provide food to thousands of athletes with rave reviews. Yukon College will continue with an approach focused on customer service and high nutrition.

The Arctic Winter Games will be held in Whitehorse from March 4 to 10, 2012, during the Yukon Collegereading week.
