The Whitehorse Cross Country Ski team members aren't the only local athletes competing on Outside trails.

Erin Oliver-Beebe, Jennifer Curtis and Ryan Burlingame just finished their competitions at the Canadian Biathlon Championships in Valcartier, Quebec.

"It was a great competition and the results from the week got better and better as things went on,” said team wax-tech Bill Curtis.

The three Yukoners were consistently in the top 10 and Oliver-Beebe was able to capture a bronze medal in the pursuit race.

Curtis said it was an exciting finish in a race that featured stellar performances from both Jennifer and Oliver-Beebe.

The teammates entered the shooting range together as they vied for position near the top of the field.

After connecting on ten straight targets, Jennifer moved her way into second place.

She was unable to maintain the position as the race went on, finishing fifth overall against the top biathletes in the nation.

The four competitors that placed ahead of her were each members of the national team that recently returned from the world championships in Finland.

Jennifer wasn't intimidated by the high-level of competition.

"I've been racing against all of them for the past four years,” she said. "So I've gotten to know their strengths and weaknesses.”

The Canadian Championships marked the last major event of the season for the Yukon team.

Looking back on the competitions, Jennifer is encouraged by the results.

"I was really happy with how the season went,” she said.

"I had a strong start and rough middle because I was sick for awhile but the last race was a positive experience. It makes me want to continue because it went well.”

Jennifer plans on taking April off and then resuming her training.

She's hopeful she'll be able to build from this season's results and post improved times moving forward.

In the individual events, the first races of the competition, Burlingame placed eighth overall, Jennifer 10th and Oliver-Beebe in fifth.

In the sprint, Burlingame improved to sixth overall as did Jennifer. Oliver-Beebe posted another fifth place finish.

In the final races Burlingame was able to finish in seventh place while Oliver-Beebe captured the bronze and Jennifer placed fifth.

"The team was really consistent and put in some good results,” said Curtis.

"They did a good job.”
