With the 2012 Arctic Winter Games on the horizan, the Yukon Badminton Association (YBA) is preparing its team.

The YBA will hold its Arctic Winter Games trials starting 1:15 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday, both at the Takhini Elementary School gym.

The age groups for those eligible for the Games are U16 and U19 for the boys and girls.

The Yukon contingent will consist of two boys and two girls in each age group for a total of eight players.

"We have small pool, so there will be competition happening (this weekend),” YBA president Sandeep Sharma said.

"I expect there to be a turn out of about 20, 25 athletes. We've got some that are newcomers, so maybe there will be upsets, maybe not.”

Registration for the trial is $25.

The basis of the selection will be the winners of the trial, which will follow a round-robin tournament format.
