Yukon Appliance, Envirolube earn rec hockey titles

The Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League finished off their season on March 30, with their best of five series, that ended with Yukon Appliance and Envirolube on the top of their divisions.
The A division final was a showdown between Yukon Appliance and Cinderwood/Air North, that saw the game sealed with just 25 seconds left for Yukon Appliance.
Rob Wells opened the scoring for Yukon Appliance early in the first with a short-handed goal assisted by Matt Seigmiller and Brian Currie.
Cinderwood replied just minutes later with a goal from Jay Glass, his first of three. The goal was assisted by Jaxon Glass and Tim McClelland.
Yukon Appliance earned the lead at 12:30 after Ryan Martin scored, assisted by Jason Berkers and Glenn Skookum.
Jay Glass opened the scoring in the second for his team by tying up the score. The goal was assisted by Nigel Cripps and Curt Campbell.
The next 12 minutes went scoreless for both teams until Berkers finally got past Cinderwood goalie Ian Perrier at 9:15. The goal was assisted by Spencer Tomlin.
To keep things even, Kirk Gale scored for Cinderwood just over a minute later at 8:02 on the power play, assisted by Jaxon Glass.
The game remained tied until Cinderwood managed to pull ahead with Jay Glass' third goal to score a hat trick. The goal was assisted by Burt Stephens and Cripps.
Yukon Appliance were not yet ready to concede the win, and managed to bring the game to a tie at 1:04. The goal was scored by Aaron Pettitt and assisted by Tomlin and Seigmiller.
With the game looking as though it would head into overtime, Tomlin managed to score with just 25 seconds left assisted by Wells.
The seconds ticked off the clock, and Yukon Appliance became the 2010 A division winners.
In the B Division, the Envirolube Oilers was victorious over the Y.E.S. Jets to earn this year's B title.
The game was another close one with the win being earned for the Oilers in the final two minutes.
The Jets led the scoring for most of the game, getting their first goal at 18:22 by Geoff Quinsey, assisted by Willy Benn and John Oshourne.
The Oilers replied at 9:57 with a goal from Justin Quigley for the tie. The goal was assisted by Evan Wise and Don Fedus.
The Jets earned the lead just over three minutes later at 6:36 with a goal from Darryl Froese, assisted by Adam Schellenberg and Quinsey.
The Jets began the second period with a lead, but it wasn't long before the Oilers tied things up with a goal from Anthony Redford assisted by Peter Mostyn at 15:43.
The score remained the same until the Oilers finally managed a goal with 1:40 left in the game by Redford, his second of the night, that was assisted by Matt Burdenie and Mostyn. Redford was just returning from the penalty box after serving two minutes for slashing when he scored the goal past Y.E.S. Jets goaltender Jordan Cowman.
There just wasn't enough time for the Jets to make up the one-goal lead, and the B division title was secured by the Envirolube Oilers.
The games last Tuesday end the rec hockey league for the 2009/2010 season.
