A group of seven young Glacier Bears attended the Dino Cup held in Calgary recently.

This was a 10 and under meet and the first big meet for our young team members.

With almost 400 swimmers competing in the Dino Cup, the young Whitehorse swimmers had strong competition in all the events, sometimes with 40 or more swimmers per event.

With that strong competition came proof that these little Bears are up to the challenge.

All seven swimmers earned personal best times in almost all their events. Several swimmers placed in the top eight in their events. Rennes Lindsay had outstanding results, placing first in every one of her events, which earned her the aggregate winner award for the 7 and under girls age group.

Lindsay's events and first place times were:

• 25-metre freestyle, 19.85

• 50-m freestyle, 45.53

• 100-m freestyle, 1:36.24

• 25-m backstroke, 25.23

• 50-m breaststroke, 1:02.04

• 100-m breaststroke, 2:13.78

• 25-m butterfly, 24.63

• 50-m butterfly, 51.80

Lindsay was joined at the top with many of her fellow Bears, including Celeste Findlay, who placed second in two events in the 8-year-old division, the 25-m freestyle with a time of 19.57 and the 100-m breaststroke with her time of 2:03.61.

Findlay also placed fourth in the 100-m freestyle in 1:40.26, fifth in both the 200-m freestyle in 3:38.08 and 50-m freestyle in 42.74 and sixth in the 100-m individual medley with a time of 2:00.91.

Cassis Lindsay placed seventh in the 9-year-old girls class for the 50-m freestyle with a time of 39.45, 200-m freestyle in 3:21.83 and 100-m individual medley in 1:46.94, and she placed eighth in the 100-m freestyle in 1:29.39.

Luke Bakica in the 9-year-old boys category placed fifth in the 25-m freestyle in 19.46 and 200-m freestyle with a time of 3:28.92, sixth in the 100m individual medley in 1:55.16, seventh in the 200-m individual medley in 3:57.40 and eighth in the 100-m breaststroke in a time of 2:06.86.

Matthew Blakesley, also in the 9-year-old boys competition, placed fourth in the 25-m freestyle in 19.21, sixth in the 200m freestyle in 3:30.52, and eighth in the 100-m individual medley in 1:57.79.

Tomas Tokic earned six personal best times in the 100-m individual medley, 100-m breaststroke, 50-m breaststroke, 50-m backstroke and 50-m and 100-m freestyle.

He also won fourth place in the 25-m backstroke with his time of 25.16.

Taylor Harvey competed in the 10-year-old girls category and finished with personal best times in four of her events, the 50-m backstroke and 50-m freestyle, and 50-m butterfly and the 100-m individual medley.

Congratulations to coach Corey Bradbury and the swimmers for their hard work.
