Can you believe it is already Thursday? The Yukon athletes competing in the first week at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta., are nearing the end of their competitions.

Let’s take a look to see how the Yukon athletes faired during their Wednesday evening events, as well as look at those who competed early today.

Helene Maguire competed this morning at the Sport Centre in Calgary in the solo female free routine event. Maguire scored a 55.8667 on her routine. Combined with her technical routine, she has a total score of 100.4606.

Her teammate Ella Laliberty will be doing her free routine this afternoon. In her technical routine, she received a 51.0780.

The male biathletes had another successful day on the trails and the range competing in the 3x7.5-kilometre relay. The girls only had two athletes so did not compete in the event.

The team of Jake Draper, Romeo Champagne, and Aidan Hupè accumulated a total time of 1:13:00.4 good for sixth place. The highest finish for the Yukon at the games thus far.

Both the boys and the girls will compete late this afternoon in the individual race.

We head to freestyle skiing next where the Yukon had six athletes competing in the slopestyle event. Niko Rodden snagged a top ten finish coming in ninth. Kyran Allan, 14th, and Neil Mikkelsen, 17th got top 20. Tristan Munright Muir, Max Logan, and Chris Arsenault finished 26th, 30th, and 32nd respectively.

All six of the skiers will be competing today at the Canyon Ski Resort in the big air event.

Gymnasts Hailey Sherman and Bianca Berko-Malvasio are back in the gym today after having Wednesday off. The two will be competing in beam, floor, vault, and uneven bars.

In Tuesday’s artistic - all around event Sherman scored highest on the vault scoring 8.737. Berko-Malvasio’s best event was also the vault scoring 8.362.

Caius Shepherd came last in his heat with a time of 1:38.898. Micah came third ending with a time of 1:35.045.

Micah’s time was good enough to push him through to the second round where he will compete later this afternoon.

The table tennis players, both the boys and the girls, lost their late games Wednesday and did not advance to Thursday.

The hockey team did not make it out of the round-robin.
