Organizers of the 2010 Yukon Adventure Challenge: The August Rush have a surprise event in store for the competitors.
That surprise event is on top of the running, trekking, swimming, mountain biking, paddling and zip lining the athletes will have to endure over the 12-hour race, which will run from 6a.m.-6p.m. on Saturday, starting near the Icy Waters and ending at the Takhini Hot Springs, where there will be a post-race barbeque.
Ten teams had signed up by deadline last week to push themselves through the ringer.
Organizer Mike Tribes said there is more involved than endurance.
"It is a classic adventure race: it's not just a physical race, you have to plan and think,” said Tribes, who has traveled south to compete in similar events.
Spectators looking to catch sight of the action should go to Scout Lake between 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday afternoon, Tribes said.
