The Yukon capital will play host to the Tier 3 Midget British Columbia Hockey Championships in March 2015.
The tournament will be held March 15 to 20, 2015, BC Hockey announced this week.
Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association president Carl Burgess said 11 teams are expected to compete, including the hometown Mustangs.
Hundreds of players, coaches, scouts and fans are expected to take in the action at Takhini Arena.
“As usual, the community and businesses showed an incredible level of support and enthusiasm to make this reality,” Burgess said.
“It is a big year for minor hockey in Whitehorse and Yukon.”
Alongside hosting the Tier 3 Midget championships, the territory will also send U16 male and female squads to the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C., in February.
In preparation for the upcoming season, a BC Hockey Super Clinic is being planned for Sept 26 to 28 in Whitehorse.
The event will cover coach and referee certification, as well as off-ice officiating and the Hockey Canada Safety Program.
“We always need coaches and referees,” Burgess said, adding that registration for the upcoming hockey season remains open.
