The Midget B's, representing the Whitehorse Minor Hockey League, showed off their skills in a recent Alaskan tournament.

The team finished with a thrilling 1-0 victory over the host team of the Tok Midget's Hockey Tournament to win the event.

The tournament was held in Tok, Alaska from Feb. 29 and concluded with the final game on March 1, played at 8 p.m.

"It was good at the the end, the kids were very excited," said coach Larry Park.

"They played real well, it was a good trip."

This was the first and only tournament of the season for the Midget B's, who were made up of players from the two teams in the Midget division.

The purpose of forming was just to take part in the tournament. After the Arctic Winter Games, all players will return to their individual squads to finish what remains of the 2007-08 season.

This was the second year in a row that the Midget's 'B' team has entered this tournament. Last year, the group finished in second place.

The Midget B's were the only team from Whitehorse at the event. The remaining teams were all from Alaska.

A round robin format was used for all five of the competing teams at the tournament, who played out of one pool at the event.

The Midget B's following game was played Friday evening against Delta. Although the team didn't score quite as many goals as they did in their previous matchup, they still played very well, finishing the contest with a 3-0 victory.

The Midget B's went through a marathon, to say the least, on Saturday, competing in three games throughout the course of the day.

Their first contest was against Fairbanks Red at 1 p.m. In this matchup, the Midget B's would increase their winning streak to three games.

The group won by a impressive 5-1 final score and had to quickly prepare for their final round robin contest against Tok.

In their next game, played Saturday at 4 p.m., the team suffered their first loss of the event, but their 3-1 record placed them second in the pool, which automatically qualified them to play Tok again in the final.

Saturday's final was a close, hard hitting affair played between the Midget B's and the only team who beat them in round robin play.

The Midget B's were able to redeem the loss, notching a late goal in the final three minutes of the game for the 1-0 victory over Tok.

Travis Park scored the goal for the Midget B's to help them take the tournament for the first time ever.
