Whitehorse Glacier Bears Yukon championships

The Whitehorse Glacier Bears swim club held the Yukon Championships last Friday and Saturday.

The Whitehorse Glacier Bears swim club held the Yukon Championships last Friday and Saturday.

“I believe the meet was a phenomenal effort from everyone: meet management team, officials/volunteers, coaches and swimmers and CGC (Canada Games Centre) staff,” head coach Carmen Escobar said in a statement.

“It has been a very difficult year for all of us, so putting this event together was a priority.

“After eight months of hard work, to be able to have an event where we could see our efforts reflected in results was a very important task. I am very proud of how Glacier Bears performed!”

Here are the top swimmers from each age group

15 and over girls: Hannah Kingscote, Amelia Barrault and Amelia Ford
15 and over boys: Thomas Gishler, Alexander Petriew and Aidan Harvey
13-14 girls: Avery Kinsella, Melody Qui and Kale Massie
13-14 boys: Oliver Cull, Liam Gishler and Corbyn Jackson
11-12 girls: Sabine Keesey, Madison Parson and Kathleen Hirsh
11-12 boys tied for first: Elliot Gishler and Hugh Stopps, Quin Lalonde and Will Sugden
9-10 boys: Roy Oborne, Cody Hirsch and Armaan Dhillon
9-10 girls: Amelia Rainey, Mahee Patera Marchand and tied in third: Maya Poirier and Sienna Thorburn
8 and under girls: Blake Steele, Natalie Hallock and Mallory Horton

There are no 8 and under boys.

Congratulations to all the Glacier Bears swimmers! It's wonderful to see such an engaged team of swimmers, volunteers and coaches. The hard work of each swimmer really paid off.
