A couple of Whitehorse Glacier Bears helped make up more than a few highlights for Canada at the Australian Age Group Championships.

Swimmers Bronwyn Pasloski and Alexandra Gabor made up a team Canadians at the Australian Age Group Championships held April 13-18 in Sydney, Australia.

Gabor was first Canadian to get on the podium, winning a gold medal and breaking a B.C. record in the 100-m freestyle (15-17 girls).

Her time in the final was 56.52.

Pasloski also did well early on at the Australian Age Group Championships, finishing third in the 16-year-old breast stroke.

Pasloski's bronze medal time was 1:10.89.

Pasloski and Gabor also took part in the girls' 16 and under 400 medley relay team that would have placed first by more than six seconds if Team Canada's relays weren't exhibition only.

Gabor added another gold medal to her collection in the 200-m freestyle, winning with a time of two minutes and 01:52 seconds, which was less than one second less than her personal best time, set at January's Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Guam.

She also had a strong showing in the 400-m freestyle, placing second.

Pasloski also had a great result in the 200-m. individual medley, placing fifth in the 16 year old category.

Canada's youth team features 13 swimmers and was announced after the Spring Nationals held recently in Toronto.

Both Whitehorse swimmers had an outstanding meet.

Gabor claimed a bronze medal in the 200-m free, setting a new B.C. record for girls 15-17 and for senior girls in that event.

She also broke her own B.C. record for girls 15-17 in the 50-m free, with a time of 25.76 seconds.

Pasloski finished fifth in the 100-m breast, a new B.C. record for girls 15-17 in that event.

As well, she was first in the B final of the 200-m breast, an event in which Annamay Pierse set a new world record.

The Canadian team is currently involved in a four-day training session with renowned Australian Swim Coach Denis Cotterell, who coached Olympic Champion Grant Hackett.

The training session began after the conclusion of the age group championships on Saturday. It is being held in Miami, Australia.

Gabor and Pasloski are expected to be back in Whitehorse next weekend.
