The Whitehorse FC girls U13 team spent their Thanksgiving weekend in Vancouver playing in the North Shore Girls tournament and competing in the U13 Division 2.

The girls had four games scheduled and went undefeated through the tournament on their way to winning gold.

Their tournament began with two games on the schedule on Saturday. The first was against Vancouver Athletic Football Club (VAFC) United.

It was a strong start for Whitehorse FC. The team’s offence was in sync and they defeated VAFC United 6-0.

They carried that offensive momentum forward into the second game of the tournament. Playing the North Shore Girls Soccer Club U-13 Sting Rays, Whitehorse FC piled on the goals and cruised to a convincing 7-1 victory.

On Sunday, their only game was against the North Shore Girls Soccer Club U13 Rangers. The offensive output wasn’t like their first two games but their defence and goalie stood strong and the attackers were able to get two past the Rangers goalie to win a close match 2-1.

Whitehorse FC’s strong round-robin play landed them in the gold medal match on Monday. They were once again facing the NSGSC U13 Rangers.

In the gold medal, match Whitehorse FC was able to break the Rangers defence and find the back of the net for a 5-1 win.

Mikayla Shaw led the FC offence totalling eight goals throughout the tournament. Jordan Minifi potted five and Jamie Chown Chaikel, Mia Raymond and Alexie Guilbeault all netted two. Victoria Watson added one.

Goalkeeper Kalie Bennett had a strong tournament as only three goals made it past her.
