The Tennis Yukon Association is set to hold its final outdoor competition of the 2008 season.

The three-day tournament will begin on Friday with both junior and adult competition at the Mt. McIntyre courts.

"The tournament is just a fun chance to get together and watch some good tennis and get excited about that," said Stacy Lewis, president of the the Tennis Yukon Association.

Presently there are around 10 men and 10 women registered to compete in the adult singles division, while six teams have signed up to compete in each the men's doubles, ladies doubles and mixed doubles categories.

The junior division will feature three separate categories. The first is for the more advanced players, who will be evaluated by Tennis Yukon, which hopes to send a team of two male and two female players to the 2009 Canada Summer Games.

The other two categories will include both a full court and half court competition for younger or beginning tennis players.

The junior category is for players 18 or younger and will use a round robin format in all three categories.

Registration is still open to interested players and cost $10 for Tennis Yukon members and $15 for non-members. Registration can be made by emailing tennisyukon@mac.com. Currently all of the players that are registered to play are from Whitehorse. Registration can be made up until Friday morning.

Players will be competing for more than just bragging rights, as there will also be a variety of gear given away, such as T-shirts, wristbands and key chains.

The is also a championship trophy, which will include the names and divisions of all of this weekend's winners.

Some of the nicer prizes such as the T-shirts and racquet bags will be awarded to the divisional winners and finalists.

Lewis said she is happy with how the season has gone this summer.

"There's a lot of people at the courts and that is great to see," she said. "I think people have had a lot of fun, either re-discovering it or even coming to it as newcomers."

Tennis Yukon will also offer lessons and activities during the winter months, which will be held at Yukon College. The organization will be at the Registration Fair at the Canada Games Centre on Sept. 6 in the flexihall.
