Volleyball Yukon adds more trained coaches to its roster

Thanks to an Outside facilitator, there are 10 new development coaches trained to instruct volleyball and another two that are fully certified.
At the beginning of November, Volleyball Yukon hosted a development coaching workshop for the first time since the sport implemented new changes to the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP), said Volleyball Yukon executive director D’Arcy Hill.
Instead of hosting what would have been known as a Level I coach workshop, it’s now known as a development coach workshop.
Held at Porter Creek Secondary School, participants spent 13 hours over two days learning techniques.
“I felt like it went really well,” said Hill. “It was a great mix of participants.”
The cost of the workshop, normally between $150 and $200, was subsidized by Volleyball Yukon, so participants only had to pay $30 for the course.
Some of those who attended the workshop will be helping with the Subzero volleyball club season, which will begin in the New Year.
Hill said the club athletes will benefit from the coaching training that was offered.
He said the process was positive and that in addition to a beach volleyball certification next summer, they are also looking to train a local facilitator who can offer more workshops and perform evaluations to certify coaches.
