The Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club had two snowmobiles stolen from its PB shed the club posted on its Facebook page on Dec. 4. It is suspected the two Arctic Cat Bearcat 7000's, mostly black with some orange, were stolen in the evening the post said.

The theft has been reported to the RCMP. The Club is asking for people to contact the RCMP if they saw anything suspicious.

Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club operations manager, Jan Polivka, said the snowmobiles are valued at $20,000 each and have special equipment on them for grooming trails.

"It's disappointing people can do that," said Polivka. "For us, the snowmobiles are important for grooming trails. Luckily, with so much snow, we can use our other equipment."

Polivka said the two stolen snowmobiles are insured and that the Club does have two other, larger ones plus a Snowcat, so grooming can continue. However, the snowmobiles were used for another important purpose.

"Ski Patrol would use them," said Polivka. "They were important because if someone gets into an emergency on the trail, Ski Patrol could go and get them."

The snowmobiles were stolen from the Club's equipment shed along with some other tools.

Polivka said the shed had no cameras.

"The shed was well secured, so we thought," he said. "We are working to improve that."
