Turbos' overpower competition in oldtimers hockey game

The Performance Centre Turbos have a lot to be proud of so far in the early going of the oldtimers hockey season.
The team is currently ranked at the top of the standings, they have played consistent hockey since the beginning of the season and Thursday night they beat Medicine Chest, who just happens to have one of the best goalies in the league.
The final score of the game was 4-2, but it could have easily been a lot worse for Medicine Chest had it not been for some big time saves from their netminder, Glen Traverse.
'I think we played the best game all year,' said Brian Alp, a player on the Turbos. 'We haven't played cohesively like that in a long time and I think we just handled the puck very well tonight, especially against a goalie like Glen. He's tough to score goals against.'
Despite the Turbos strong play in the game, it was Medicine Chest that got off to an early lead when forward Chris McNutt scored just a few minutes into the game.
The Turbos' didn't seem to be phased by trailing and showed a lot of jump in forechecking the puck hard into Medicine Chest's zone. They won a lot of the battles in gaining the puck and made some really nice passes to create a number of scoring chances.
It didn't take them long to tie it either. Paul Lackowicz scored with just under 16 minutes left in the period and just 30 seconds after the first goal they scored again. The goal was scored by Grant Lyons after he pounced on the rebound after Traverse made the initial save and put the puck in a few feet in front of the crease.
However, Medicine Chest didn't give up and with just under three minutes left in the period they scored after Roger Lockwood was able to score on a perfectly executed breakaway where he brought the goalie to before bringing the puck across to his backhand and putting it in.
Traverse maintained the tie with a great save where he blocked a snap shot heading straight for the five-hole and then quickly smothered the puck before the Turbos could get to it.
In the second period both teams traded chances forcing each goalie to make a number of big-time saves. At the 13-minute mark of the game Lyons scored a highlight reel goal and his second of the night. Lyons waited for Traverse to go down and then roofed the puck into the top of the net.
Despite a valiant effort from Medicine Chest to re-tie the game, it was a flukey bounce that ended up putting the game out of reach late in the period. A strange bounce after a scrum behind the net was batted in by Gord Campbell.
McNutt, said his team just didn't have the jump that they normally do in a game.
'We were in the game, it was close, but we just didn't get the bounces it seemed or that little bit of extra effort,' he said. 'These things come in waves, it's sort of who wants it more, they seemed to want the loose puck's and have the jump.'
He said that Traverse was their best player of the game.
'Our goalie is usually the one who keeps us in it, he's a number one draft pick every year,' McNutt said. 'We sort of rely on him sometimes a little bit too much.'
McNutt thought the turning point of the game was when the Turbos' scored the fourth goal of the game.
'It wasn't a pretty goal, but welcome to oldtimers hockey; that's what a lot of them are like,' he said. 'You just put it out in front of the net and just start whacking at it and that's what they did and they got a couple bounces that way.'
The other game in the Oldtimers Hockey League featured the Yukon Inn against the AON Flames. Yukon Inn won the game by one goal beating the Flames 4-3.
Rick Morses scored two goals with Brian Boorse and Dave White each scoring one.
Scoring for the Flames came from Stu Mackay, Bill Bohmer and Al Koehl.
