Troy Henry wins second straight VeloNorth cycling race this weekend
Despite somewhat cool and windy conditions the racing was fast and furious in the first road race of the cycling season.
Despite somewhat cool and windy conditions the racing was fast and furious in the first road race of the cycling season.
Less than three days ago young Troy Henry demolished the field in thefirst time trial of the season.
Expectations were high that over the challenging and hilly out-and-back 50-km course on the North Klondike that Henry could possibly walk away from his rivals.
All the tactics, all the surges and all the attacks came for naught as it came down to an old fashioned three-up sprint in the last 200-m.
When the dust settled Henry easily took the sprint but not after Jonah Clarke made a valiant attempt a few hundred meters earlier to break free of his rivals.
In the end he paid for his all out effort as Ian Parker slipped into second place.
A minute back the chase group comprised of the rest of the Men's Expert field were approaching the finish and this time there were five riders all trying to take the fourth position.
The first wheel to cross the line belonged to Joel ‘Whose Your Daddy' Macht.
Macht who claims not to be doing much riding because of his, ‘new dad' duties, much to the chagrin of his fellow chase group companions appears to have sandbagged them. He may well be a marked man in the next race.
In the Women's Expert Class, Heather Enders followed up on her recent dominating time trial victory by just getting by Jillian Chown at the line.
The Sport Men category also saw a close finish as John Berryman, better known as a time trialist, out sprinted Jud Deuling and Sean McCarron for the win with all three riders getting the same time.
Kerrie Paterson, a school teacher from Teslin followed her fine time trial ride in the first event of the season by soloing to a win in the Sport Woman category.
