Three Yukon sport projects hope to be among the top four community finalists unveiled next Sunday.
In partnership with TSN, Kraft Project Play will unveil its top four projects July 26 with the chance to win $250,000 towards a recreational facility upgrade.
The grand prize winner will be unveiled Aug. 21 following the voting period of Aug. 17 and 18.
The three runner-up projects will earn $25,000 each.
Three Yukon projects were nominated before the June 14 deadline, including candidates from Burwash Landing, Old Crow and Whitehorse.
The Burwash Landing submission would see an upgrade to the community’s recreational facilities, specifically the skate park, playground and basketball court.
Nominated by Corrina Zuliani, the upgrade would benefit young families and children by helping them stay active and out of trouble, she said.
Meanwhile, Old Crow has filed a submission with hopes of building a multi-purpose park that could host baseball, soccer and other field games, as well as an up-to-date playground.
Nominator Renita Kakfwi said the recent construction of a fuel tank farm decimated the existing ball diamond.
She noted winning the prize money would help the northern fly-in community ship the necessary supplies, and any extra funds would be spent on a sprinkler system.
The final Yukon submission concerns the soccer pitches at Porter Creek Secondary School.
Nominator Matthias Hoenisch said the prize money would help clean up the “many hazards” on the school’s fields, including potholes, torn nets and a damaged sprinkler system. Bleachers would also be considered.
