Special Olympics Yukon athletes captured 18 medals at the BC Special Olympics Summer Games in Kamloops last weekend.
The team, featuring more than 20 athletes, competed in six different sports.
“The athletes were extremely prepared,” said Team Yukon Chef de Mission Brettanie Deal-Porter. “It was a really great event.
Here’s a look at how the team did in Kamloops:
Rhythmic Gymnastics: Aimee Lien (gold in rope, gold in ball, gold in ribbon, gold in hoop, gold in all-around)
Swimming: Kevin Spofford (gold in 200 freestyle, gold in 50 backstroke, silver in 100 backstroke, gold in 100 freestyle), Ernest Chua (silver in 200 freestyle, silver in 50 backstroke, silver in 25 freestyle), Sara-Lee Edmonds (gold in 25 freestyle)
Athletics: Jessica Pruden (silver in long jump, silver in 100-metre), Darby McIntyre (silver in 1,500-metre, silver in 3,000, silver in 5,000-metre)
Golf: Tijana McCarthy (fifth)
Bocce: Carrie Rudolph, Trevor Beemish, Teresa Roberts and Taylor Pooyatak-Amundson (fourth)
Soccer: Mike Sumner, Chris Lee, Teddy Jackson, Jasmin Stange, QueyAnna Thompson, Gaetan Michaud, Stefan Oettli, Kenny Atlin, Owen Munroe, Duncan McRae and Rachel Dawson (fifth).
