With a gold medal on the line,
With a gold medal on the line, Takhini Gas wasn't taking any chances Thursday in the Whitehorse Women's Basketball League.
After surviving an overtime scare against in the semi-finals, the squad netted 65 points, handing Airport Chalet a convincing 14-point loss.
The gold medal game was played at Vanier Catholic School.
On Thursday, Takhini Gas avoided making the same mistake it did, five days earlier, against Feature Foods.
The team's error against Feature Food was simply letting their opponents back into the game after taking a dominant lead by the half.
Takhini Gas was leading 31-18 by the halfway point, before eventually needing overtime to win 59-54.
This past Thursday, however, was another story and despite a valiant effort by Airport Chalet, Takhini Gas maintained a comfortable advantage for the majority of the contest.
Airport Chalet had previously beaten the Kopper Kweens 62-45 to punch its ticket to the gold medal final.

Marie Cairns was a big help to Takhini Gas in Thursday's final.
Cairns led all scorers between the two teams, finishing with 22 points.
Other Takhini Gas scoring leaders included Nathalie Gionet, who finished with 17, and Lariena Twardochleb. Twardochleb netted 12 points in the win.
Sarah Crane was the top scorer on Airport Chalet with 18 points, while Megan Freese chipped in 13 and Anett Kralisch contributed 10.
Feature Foods 58, Kopper Kweens 46
The bronze medal contest was a little closer, starting off with Feature Foods starting off with a run that resulted in the squad enjoying a 10 point lead after the opening 10 minutes.
By the half, however, the Kopper Kweens had reduced its deficit to just four points.
Unfortunately for the Kopper Kweens, Feature Foods started running the ball a lot better in the second half, making their fast break points.
Finishing with 23 points, Angella Ell was the leading scorer on Feature Foods, while Alcina Banks helped out with 10 points and Diedre Davidson finished with eight points.
Davidson admitted it was a little tough playing for bronze after the overtime loss to Takhini Gas, but added it was still nice to win.
She said it was a good season in the basketball league.
"We had a bit of lull in the last couple of seasons with not as much interest and that sort of thing," Davidson said, adding there was more interest this year. "Even the calibre of play is quite fantastic and it's a great workout."
Michelle Massie led the offensive charge for the Kopper Kweens, scoring 20 points. The team also received plenty of help from Ann Jirousek and Michelle Mckay, who combined for 20 points.
