Local students got an introduction to the sport of disc golf last Friday.

The Yukon Schools’ Athletic Association (YSAA) hosted the event at the Mount McIntyre course.

Eighty students from several local schools participated, alongside students from Carcross.

“This is the first year YSAA has put on the event for Grade 7 and 8 students,” said event organizer Marc Senecal. “Last year, we did an initial feeler for Grade 8 and only PCSS (Porter Creek Secondary School) came out.

“We’re trying to broaden our scope to offer athletic opportunities to students who don’t participate in team events.”

While results weren’t kept, a “great day was had by all,” said Senecal, noting his thanks to the Whitehorse Disc Golf Association, event partners.

The next YSAA event begins today as Soccer Fest takes over the fields at Christ the King Elementary and Vanier Catholic Secondary Schools.
