Once again, perfect riding conditions greeted 13 riders who participated in this season's Jake's Corner to Whitehorse road race.

The 75-kilometre/85-km effort was supported by a significant tailwind that created fast times and opportunities for break-aways.

A big thanks to Bill Slater and Allan Frostad who helped out with timing and providing support vehicles for the event. Some riders also chose to ride the course as a time-trial as well.

In the sport women category, five riders participated in the 75-km route. After starting out together, the group split up over the distance as hills divided up the riders.

At the finish line, Trena Irving had the fastest time, covering the 75-km in 2:06.34. Penny Sheardown and Pauline Craig finished second and third respectively with times of 2:18.40 and 2:23.40.

In the expert men category, attrition was the word of the day as the initial group of five riders became smaller one at a time for a variety of reasons over the 85-km route.

Steve Ball had to leave the group first due to a flat only two-km from the start line. Ball had cycled out earlier in the morning to the start-line (against a strong headwind) from Whitehorse.

At 50-km, the three riders remaining in the group split-up on the Yukon Bridge hill and the focus for all became individual efforts for the remaining 35-km as none could bridge to the rider in front of them.

At the finish line, James Minifie crossed first in a time of 2:13.17, followed by Scott Kerby (2:15.49) and Bill Parry (2:24.01).

In sport men category, Tom Ullyett had a strong ride and finished with a time of 2:11.41. Kerry Paterson and John Berryman rode the 75-km route as a time-trial and finished with times of 2:03.34 and 2:03.10 respectively.
