Storm, Blues victorious on opening night of rec playoffs

The 2007 Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League playoffs kicked off Tuesday featuring four matchups, two from the A division and two from the B division.

The 2007 Whitehorse Recreational Hockey League playoffs kicked off Tuesday featuring four matchups, two from the A division and two from the B division.

In the A division, the Southern Tutchone Storm emerged victorious over Air North 10-9 in what became a thrilling barnburner.

Scott Horsey led the Storm with three goals and five assists while Ryan Hodgins added three goals and two helpers. Kevin Smith chipped in a pair of goals and an assist while Tim McIntosh claimed a goal and four assists. Cody Joe notched a goal and an assist while Gordon Harvey and Warren Strand each finished with one helper.

Gerry Grant replied for Air North with four goals and three assists. Wes Marsh contributed three goals and two assists while Shawn Kinsella and Jeff Foster each collected a goal and two assists. Ben Harper and David Birss were also credited with assists.

In other rec playoff games, it was:

Yukon Appliance Blues 3

Northern Cross Mustangs 2

Joe Martin recorded a goal and two assists for the Yukon Appliance Blues, as they snuck past a team Martin normally coaches, the Northern Cross Midget Mustangs.

Tyler Plaunt tacked on a goal and an assist for the Blues while Curtis Goodman also bulged the twine. Mike Cozens and Ryan Martin each had an assist.

Robbie Stuckey and Daniel Cletheroe provided the offence for the Mustangs, assisted by Joe Densmore, Taylor Pasloski, Colin Dendys and Tanner Kulych.

Environmental Dynamics 5

Alwarid & Associates 2

Brian Douglas netted two goals and an assist for Environmental Dynamics as they overpowered Alwarid & Associates.

Dan Beaudoin also potted a pair of markers for EDI while Huge Bergeron posted a goal and an assist. Justin Halowaty and Jeff Bond each picked up an assist.

Mike Fraser scored both goals for A&A, assisted by Josh Craven, Blaine Monahan and Khal Alwarid.

Narrow Gauge Contracting 11

Game 7 Sports 4

Scoring came from all corners for Narrow Gauge Contracting as they destroyed Game 7 Sports.

Milo Jordan had a huge game for Narrow Gauge, burying four goals, while Yves Paradis and Adrian Bergman each chipped in a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Phillip Harry Contributed a goal and five assists while James Maltby had a goal and two helpers. Dan Macdonald also found the back of the net while Alex Vautour claimed four assists and Jordan Kulicki grabbed one assist.

Ben Cole notched a pair of goals for Game 7 while Dan Johnson and Jeremy Kovac also lit the lamp. Dan Crawford was credited with two assists while Mike Beauchamp and Myles Carlick each had one helper.
