Beautiful spring weather awaited the 100 children who participated in the final Subway day of the ski season April 4.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 students had their final Ski S'Cool lesson to wrap up a season that saw 250 students participate.

Students had three lessons each during February, March and into April. The cold weather in early February caused a number of postponements for the program.

The Subway Challenge was also affected by cold weather postponements but the 110 students, teachers and volunteers enjoyed a sun-filled day at the ski club.

To complete the challenge, students had to ski and find 21 orienteering controls that were scattered within one kilometre of the chalet.

Each student punched a record of controls and the team with the most controls won a small prize.

Special guest Dahria Beatty kept the students' attention by telling them stories about her results at the Canadian Championships and about travelling to races in Europe. Beatty won five medals in five races at nationals last month.

The afternoon was spent playing snow hockey and ultimate, while some students explored the trails by snowshoe.

Every student wanted to spend time with Beatty to soak up some of her winning personality.
