Yukon’s mushing season will kick off this Sunday with a Twister race in the Ibex Valley.

The event will begin with registration at 10 a.m., followed by a musher’s meeting and race.
There are two race options: a 12-mile trail for six dogs and a sled, or two dogs and skis; or 3.5 miles for two to four dogs and a sled, or one dog and skis.
Next weekend, a stage race is tentatively planned in Mount Lorne.
The Mount Lorne Christmas Classic is an early season mid-distance race to be held over two days if snow levels allow.
In total, there are seven races on the Dog Powered Sports Association of the Yukon’s schedule.

It’s a holiday tradition for Yukon’s top soccer players.
On Dec. 23, the territory’s soccer stars will gather at the Canada Games Centre for the annual Christmas Showcase.
A women’s game at 6:15 p.m. will be followed by a men’s game at 7:30.
Both games will pit senior select squads versus Total Soccer Excellence Academy teams.
A Jr. Strikers Selects intrasquad will be held at intermission.
Another annual holiday soccer tradition will also take place at Vanier Catholic Secondary School.
The 2015 Christmas Insomnia Tournament goes Dec. 18 to 20.
