Yukon judo athletes resumed tournament action in Carcross, Saturday.
The Ghùch Tlâ Community School was abuzz with action as local club Hiroshika Judo held its annual meet.
“As usual the competitors left it all on the mats and regardless of win or lose, they all gave amazing performances,” said Judo Yukon communications director Sylvain Racine.
Special mention needs to go towards the scorekeepers and referees, as well as the dedicated parent-volunteers who manned the concession and clothing stands, Racine added.
A total of 71 judokas registered to take part in the event.
U13 competitor Jayden Iskra led the way with two gold medals, including an advanced knowledge title.
Other gold medal winners included: Seth Smith, Anneka Aasman, Rowan Kingston, Alex Penner, Kenai Bryden, Brennen Little, Ella Hotte, Jaymi Hinchey, Gabriel Racine, Dawson Penner, Daniel Tonner and Cassi Jensen, while Benjamin MacLeod and Emersyne Sias took home golds for their work in the knowledge categories.
Nearly 100 members of the ElderActive Recreation Association (ERA) have submitted a pre-registration form to attend this summer’s national senior games in Brampton, Ont.
Every two years, ERA organizes Team Yukon to compete in the Canada 55+ Games.
The pre-registration document, known as the I Might Go form, indicates a desire to participate in the sport and recreation event.
Deadline to submit the form is Feb. 26 at the ERA office at Sport Yukon headquarters.
“This year’s games in Brampton run from Aug. 16 to 19,” said Pamela Bangart, the team’s co-chef de mission. “There will be 24 sports and activities and Team Yukon will be competing in 21 events.”
On Friday and Saturday, the ERA will host a winter tournament at the Canada Games Centre to give seniors a chance to compete in carpet bowling and floor shuffleboard. Four communities will be represented.
