Sport Yukon has announced that local runners will be returning to the South Klondike Highway this fall, as the Kinda’ Klondike Road Relay (KRR) kicks off Sept. 11.

The KRR race committee is creating a modified version of the event for 2021, to align with current federal and territorial COVID restrictions.

Due to the continuing international border closure, the race will take place strictly on the Canadian side of the highway, beginning at the Yukon border, and will be open to local residents only.

“We will be rolling out more information on the Kinda’ Klondike Road Relay in the coming months, with registration set to open in late June,” Sport Yukon said Thursday.

“Registration will be capped based on recommendations from the chief medical officer of health’s office.

“While our American friends and supporters are not able to join us for this year’s live event, we look forward to welcoming everyone back when we return to the original KRR format in 2022.”

Good! Now wonder why other sport events, like KCIBR, couldn't have done the same instead of doing virtual again! Least Sport Yukon will still get some fundraising out of this. Alaskans can organize their own event on their side til COVID is sorted out.
