Yukon speedskaters turned in a fine performance in Calgary recently.
Eight members of the Whitehorse Rapids Speed Skating Club took part in the RU Fast meet in Calgary, Feb. 27 and 28, bringing home medals and personal bests.
The territory collected four medals, including gold for masters skater Andy Muir and youngster Lucas Taggart-Cox.
Micah Taggart-Cox and Tristan Muir won silver medals in their respective divisions.
Alongside medals, Yukoners also racked up 24 personal-best skates on the Olympic Oval.
The meet saw more than 200 competitors in a wide range of ages and abilities. Yukon’s team featured two rookies – Lisa Freeman and Anders Petersson.
For some of the local skaters, the event served as a replacement for the 2016 Arctic Winter Games currently being held in Greenland.
Six sports – including speedskating – were scratched from the schedule due to lack of infrastructure.
