Twenty-two skaters set a record 31 personal bests at the Yukon Speed Skating Championships held Sunday night in Whitehorse.
Held on the ATCO ice surface at the Canada Games Centre, skaters from Haines Junction, Marsh Lake and Whitehorse competed in 27 races of varying distances to wind up the speedskating season.
“The team is looking very strong for next year’s Arctic X Games,” said Whitehorse Rapids Speed Skating Club head coach Phil Hoffman.
“And with all the help provided by all our volunteers on Sunday, we will be ready to host other speedskating teams from across the North next March.”
The Yukon Amateur Speed Skating Association expressed thanks the Government of Yukon, Lotteries Yukon and the City of Whitehorse for supporting another great season of the fastest sport on ice.
Next season, Whitehorse will host the 2016 Arctic X Games, which will coincide with the 2016 Arctic Winter Games in Greenland.
The event will include hockey, figure skating, speedskating, dog mushing, gymnastics and curling.
