Six players got the tap to attend provincial hockey camps in British Columbia over the next few weeks.

Five members of the minor midget Yukon Mustangs program – which just concluded its first year – received invitations to BC Cup camps, which feature 120 elite players that will eventually be whittled into a provincial hockey team to compete at the 2016 Western Branch Challenge Cup.

Presented by the Western Hockey League, the Challenge Cup takes place in late October during non-Canada Winter Games years.

Bryce Anderson, Oscar Burgess, Dylan Cozens and Brett Walchuk were extended invites to the U16 BC Cup showcase in Salmon Arm April 20 to 24, while Kyron Crosby is bound for the U15 event in Richmond next month.

Not to be outdone, Female Mustangs star Maddie Nicholson earned an invite to a U16 provincial ID camp currently underway in Salmon Arm.

The latest crop of Yukon players to be recognized by BC Hockey follow in the footsteps of several former Whitehorse standouts.

Last year, Joe Stokes attended the U16 event, while Anderson, Burgess, Cozens and Walchuk received U15 invites.

In 2013, goalie Josh Tetlichi joined forwards Nick Dobush and Levi Johnson at the U16 tournament.

The BC Cup is a jamboree-style tournament that sees the 120 players sorted into six teams.

From there, two teams of players will be chosen to compete in a smaller summer camp in July, before the final provincial team is named.
