GOING FOR IT - Two players battle for the puck in Thursday's Oldtimers Hockey League game between the Klondyke Dental Molars and Edgewater Hotel.
A root canal might have been less painful for the Klondyke Dental Molars than the first period of Thursday's Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League game.
A root canal might have been less painful for the Klondyke Dental Molars than the first period of Thursday's Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League game.
After the buzzer sounded to conclude the opening 22 minutes, the team found itself trailing Edgewater Hotel 6-0 in the first of two oldtimers' games played at the Takhini Arena.
The Molars showed some adversity in the second frame, narrowing the gap to three goals, but Edgewater held on to win the game 7-4.
"That's our style, score all the goals in the first and then try to hold on in the second," said Edgewater Hotel left-winger Rick Seaman. "We don't do as well in the second, shall we say."
Seaman, who finished the game with two points, got Edgewater Hotel off to a quick start, scoring on Molars goalie Ray Davies less than two minutes into the contest.
Edgewater didn't let up one bit and before the halfway point of the first period added two more goals to its total.
The team's second tally was scored by Morley Lessard, while Shelby Workman made it 3-0 on a perfectly placed shot that found the top corner of the net, beating Davies blocker-side.
Wayne Vallevand also got in on the scoring for Edgewater, netting the team's fourth goal.
The Molars had a chance to get back in the game after a player on Edgewater drew a penalty with just over five minutes remaining in the opening frame.
However, not only did the players on Edgewater kill of the penalty, they also increased their lead to 5-0. Edgewater's fifth goal was scored by Gord Peterson.
Brent Cooper scored Edgewater's sixth and final goal of the period with less than three minutes to go in the first frame.
The goal drought finally ended for the Dental Molars in the second period. After some increased pressure in Edgewater's zone, Ron Daub was able to slide the puck past goalie John Grant.
"See how easy it is," one of the Molars exclaimed as he skated towards the bench.
The Molars narrowed the gap to 6-3, thanks to goals from Alain Pelletier and Adam Green.
Edgewater regained control on a quick goal by Peterson, who broke in, out-weighted Davies and then slid the puck into the back of the net.
The final goal of the game was netted by Rob Millar, who scored for the Molars with less than five minutes left on the clock.
In other Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League Thursday action, the Firth Rangers got a close 2-1 win over Kilrich.
