Rob Sinclair doesn’t appear to be relinquishing his billiards title anytime soon.

As the days grow shorter and the nights cooler, the action at Porter Creek Billiards is beginning to heat up.

Both the nine-ball and eight-ball leagues are now underway, having entered their fourth week of play.

In nine-ball action last Wednesday, two names – familiar ones to informed observers – Bob Edzerza and Sinclair both swept aside their opponents to garner the maximum six points for the evening’s play.

But they were not alone as Pat Michael also ran the table on his opponents and moved up into a tie for fourth in standings.

The top three players following last week’s play are as follows: Sinclair, Edzerza and Mike Fraser.

Sinclair won the nine-ball summer league title over Chris Lomas in late September.

In eight-ball action Thursday, it was the Ramblin’ Rowdies who took seven of nine points in their match to move into first place, a scant half point ahead of Alpha Cues and Yukon Jack who are now tied for second.

Top performer for the Rowdies was Carol Shorty who posted a 77-point night. Shorty shared the spotlight with Mike Fraser of the Odd Balls, who also scored a 77.

With Fraser’s contribution, the Odd Balls crushed the Crooked Cues 8-1 and moved up in the standings to fifth overall.

Meanwhile, last year’s champions Yukon Jack had its hands full with seventh-place Limp Sticks, but squeaked out a 5-4 victory.

In other action, Alpha Cues downed Chalk ’n Awe 5-4 while the Wobbly Pockets topped the Kids in the Hall 6-3.

The top three teams following last week’s play are: Ramblin’ Rowdies, Alpha Cues and Yukon Jack.

Play continues every Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. at Porter Creek Billiards.

As the nine-ball league is based on individual play rather than team play, new players can always be accommodated.

The eight-ball league is based on team play but there are usually one or two teams looking for spares on any given night. New players of all abilities are welcome.
