STARTING OUT – The Tuesday Fun Run is back this year with a new start and finish line. The start line is on the west side of the new running track at F.H. Collins Secondary School, and the finish will be inside the track. Here, Ehab Alhag Hussen – who finished first – leads the way at the start of Tuesday’s run. There is a new start time of 6:30 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m.

The crocuses are out in all their splendour and the unofficial season opening event, the Crocus Run, took place last Sunday. Runners of all abilities are ready for this change of season!

Athletics Yukon, as the sport governing body for all things running in Yukon, is a member of the Athletics Canada family along with all the provinces.

During this time of COVID, we must abide by the universal requirements that come from Athletics Canada which are designed to deal with the worst outbreaks of the disease across Canada. Our COVID requirements are outlined on our website at http://athleticsyukon.ca.

Our first summer 5K Fun Run was held this past Tuesday starting outside the track at F.H. Collins Secondary School and running the Millennium Trail.

Meanwhile, the first trail run of the season began on the escarpment above the Department of Education building and covered an 8-K loop that wound its way to the Hospital Ridge Trail and Broken Truck back to the starting point.

Registration for all these events must be done on-line and is limited to members of Athletics Yukon only due to COVID requirements. The calendar of events on the website offers a link to register to all events.

As a member of Athletics Yukon, you will not be charged a participation fee for any of the weekly runs or championship events.

Many of our annual runs are also free to members but, unfortunately, restricted to members only.

Other upcoming Athletics Yukon events include the Haeckel Hill Run on May 29 and the Southern Lakes Half Marathon and 10K on June 19.

A series of 5-K time trials are set to run on the track throughout the summer and may be found on the Athletics Yukon website calendar.

All events are limited to fixed numbers based on the requirements of the office of the Yukon medical officer of health.

Further information may be obtained by contacting info@athleticsyukon.ca.
