ROCKIN’ THE ROBOTS – The Robotics North Society held the Yukon FIRST Robotics Qual- ifying Championship Saturday at CSSC Mercier. Participants show off their robots in the FIRST TECH CHALLENGE (FTC) Showcase (High school robots) event. The top three in the event were Fireweed Robotics (first), Mechanical Poultry (second) and Lion Knights (third).

The Robotics North Society held the Yukon FIRST Robotics Qualifying Championship Saturday at CSSC Mercier.

The Robotics North Society held the Yukon FIRST Robotics Qualifying Championship Saturday at CSSC Mercier.

The First Lego League advancing teams were:

First Place Air North Champion Award: “Fireweed Robotics” (a home-based team) – Adrien Grégoire & Marc-André Gillis. They also received the Robot Performance Award.

Second Place Air North Champion Award: “Mechanical Poultry” – Hubert Beaupre, Cedric D’Abramo, Danikah Dunphy

Third Place Air North Champion Award: “Distinguished Victorious Geniuses” (from Del Van Gorder School in Faro) – Benjamin McFadyen and Monica Kazda

Coach Mentor Award: Guilliaume Robert from École Émilie Tremblay.

The First Tech Challenge teams competed in the Northern B.C./YT remote qualifier on Jan 11-17 and the winners were:

“The Disciples” from St. Francis of Assisi Secondary School (Callum Provan, Juan Jordan Guzman, Sunny Moore, Brian Calpo, Jack Nguyen, Sarang Kim, Kyle Sacramento – present at the event. Also on the team were Khoa Nguyen and Zyllian Saab – not present at the event).

  • Air North Champion Award;

  • 1st Inspire Award (this is the champion - best overall award);

  • 1st Robot Performance Award (best robot score);

  • Callum Provan and Juan Jordan Guzman are Dean’s List Nominees (They will have Dean’s List Finalist interviews this week).
