It'll be Cheechakos vs. Sourdoughs in a fight to the finish sometime during the next week, as Road Hockey Rumble comes to Dawson City to tape a show due to air in February or March 2008.
The show, which is entering its second season on the Outdoor Life Network, is coming to the Yukon for the first time to film the third of three northern shows in its 13-show season.
The crew has already filmed in Rankin Inlet in July, where Nashville Predators star Jordin Tootoo played with a team called the Raw Meat Eaters along with series co-host Calum MacLeod, while Mark McGuckin headed up a team called what else? the Cooked Meat Eaters.
Then in Yellowknife, the pair pitted Sir John Franklin High School against St. Patrick's High School.
'If you go back to the earliest days of Yukon history,' says the RHR press release, you will find that there were two sides.
'These feisty rivals were the Sourdoughs,' which are Yukon old-timers and the Cheechakos,' who are greenhorns or newcomers to Yukon.'
For this game the Sourdoughs will be made up of Calum plus people who have lived in Dawson City for at least a year, while the Cheechakos will be Mark and the newcomers to town.
The game, time and place, yet to be announced, isn't everything.
'A large part of Road Hockey Rumble is the local flavour,' the press package notes.
'Each episode is full of information about the history and people that make up these wonderful places. Our two hosts, Calum and Mark, recruit local players to be on their teams and the show features local landmarks and famous citizens.'
Dawson does have a bit of a road hockey tradition. Each year, the Dawson City Music Festival volunteers take on a team from CBC Yukon in a match held near the DCMF building.
More grueling is the annual rugby match fought on the ice of the Yukon River between a group of locals and a visiting crew of soldiers from the United Kingdom.
The Road Hockey Rumble production team is scheduled to arrive in Dawson today and can be reached at the Downtown Hotel.
