Riverdale maintains lead heading into final stretch

A handicap tournament allowed players of different abilities to face off on an even playing field.

Last week’s Yukon Metro Soccer League action saw Riverdale retain their lead in the league, but just barely, as they were downed by Copper Ridge 3-1 in the late match at the Canada Games Centre.

Porter Creek seems to have righted the ship as they beat Midnight Sun United 5-2 in the early game.

The previous week, the boys in green fell 7-1 to Porter Creek.

With only six games remaining in the regular season, this Friday’s matchups will help decide whether PC is able to continue its comeback, or if they will fall again to Copper Ridge. That game gets started at 8:30 p.m.

The early match at 7:30 p.m. will see Riverdale face Midnight Sun United, when the sternwheelers will have a chance to extend their lead.
